Dastak

DASTAK

In a faraway land,
There lived an exotic bird,
Everyone used to marvel,
At it's magnificence,
Undoubtedly, a sight to behold,
They feared that someone might harm them,
So they put it in a cage.
Nevertheless, they provided it with everything,
From basic appetite,
To undeterred favours,
The bird was given the choice
To be a queen in it's own right.

One day, a Traveller
Was passing through the village
Heard about the famous and majestic bird,
Decided that he shouldn't miss such a sight,
Set out on a quest,
On a journey to the mystic land,
Finally when he found her,
He was astonished.
It was nothing like he heard,
The poor bird with chains all over,
Languishing in wrath,
He could see nothing but pain.
Then, he asked her as of what ails her,
She said that she has everything,
Except freedom.

A suppressed voice and a shattered dream,
With clipped wings and chained soul,
A fire ravaged inside the bird upto the brim,
Fight for freedom extracted a heavy toll.
Nevertheless, the struggle continued,
And when finally the devil relented,
The dream for equality resumed,
And in the end the bird was elated.
Finally it dawned upon me, Now,
I know why the caged birds sing.
